Little Star Love

Gwendolyn is in love — L.O.V.E. His name is Little Star and he is her mini horse best friend!!! Little Star moved to a new home over by the beach about three weeks ago and we have been going out to see him every chance we get. The best part is Gwendolyn completely controls everything.

We've been talking about Little Star for months and when we first met him at his temporary home (it wasn't very accessible so we didn't get to go very often), she knew he was hers right away. But now…in his new home and after months of talking about what we will do with this darling pony, Gwendolyn is full of ideas!!! The first day we went out there, I was certain there would be lots of mane brushing. While she did want to do that for a minute, she kept complaining until we finally realized what she really wanted was to take Little Star on a walk. (Take a horse on a walk? Who knew?) She held his rope tightly and marched him through the stables — passed all the big horses, passed all the horse owners, as if she were showing him off and letting everyone know, This is My pony! Diane, Little Star's owner, was so wonderful and told Gwendolyn what a good job she was doing and how she made Little Star feel so safe. Gwendolyn nodded very seriously assuming full responsibility and keeping an eye on the big horses letting them know who's boss.

The next time we went out, they counted together — one, two, three — for Gwendolyn's almost birthday! She proudly presented Little Star with special star clips for his mane (custom designed by the wonderful Beb-e-ssentials women) and then placed the clips in his mane and was very specific about where each one was positioned. And, of course, they went on a walk.

And this week we got to meet Little Star's pal Zorro (aka Silver Star), also a mini, but the more normal sized mini. (Little Star is a tiny mini smile

We love our Little Star days. There is something magical about their special relationship. And I am in awe of the way Gwendolyn communicates what she wants and how each visit is going to play out. We are especially lucky because Diane is so sensitive to Gwendolyn's communication and is so appreciative of the connection Gwendolyn and Little Star share. He is the perfect therapy pony — he's already given Gwendolyn the gift of independence!!!
