This is getting ridiculous — incredible though! Bill and I were just nominated for two additional honors. These contests keep finding us and we are so humbled — speechless by it really.
- GQ Better Men Better World Search — our friend and fellow SMA parent, Dorothy Shuler, nominated Bill for this wonderful honor. Right now you can tweet it and give Bill's nomination a thumbs up on the GQ site to show the judges they should take notice. If Bill's nomination is selected, there will be a voting portion in August. And if Bill were to win first place, GSF/SMA research could receive $10,000.
- America Deserves A Raise — Bill's sister, Kristen Carter, nominated me for this awesome contest. Voting is a little confusing: you have to “Rate this story” — giving it all 10's, of course — and then hit “Submit Vote”. You can vote as many times as you like until July 27th. If I were to win this, GSF/SMA research could receive anywhere from $10,000 to $80,000. *Although it isn't stated in the essay, as with any contest we have been in, all monies won will go to SMA research and not for our personal use.
Both of these are long shots and we don't expect you all to go nuts on these — we know everyone is really burnt out in the voting department and there is a bigger contest still going on over at Pepsi — (don't forget to vote every day) — but we did want to tell you how very much we appreciate the continued support.
Bill and I by no means consider ourselves heroes or extraordinary. We know thousands of families who are fighting SMA every day and who inspire us on a daily basis to do more and be more. And we are just one family motivated by excruciating helplessness. We eat, sleep, and breathe all things SMA — perhaps too much — and we are enormously grateful for the many, many people who support us and our passion. We know we ask so much of you. We know we are obsessed. And, yet, you all continue to amaze us with your generosity, your kindness, your support in not only being involved with our family, but also telling others about our cause. You all are the incredible ones…and we are so, so appreciative because your support keeps us going. We are proud that with your incredible help, we have raised half a Million dollars in just one year! Yes, we work night and day, but none of it would amount to anything if you weren't listening and joining in. So, THANK YOU! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for fighting SMA with us, rallying behind GSF, and continually showing us inspiring examples of the goodness in humanity.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy is going down and we can't wait for that day!!!
