Watching Gwendolyn Closely

So Gwendolyn is fighting something. We hesitate to say she is sick because, well, she's smiling and insisting on doing things and going places, but she's just not quite right. No fever. No major lethargy (although a little more tired than usual). But she's not fully herself either. For several days now we have been noticing stickier secretions and a sneeze and cough. And there is a pesky plug (yellowy and bloody) that we just can't seem to get out. We get pieces, but it is so darn tacky that it is hard to suction out. Mind you, she doesn't seem that bothered by it, but, you know we watch every little sign with hawk eyes and we are not liking having this Mr. Sticky Plug hanging around.

Yesterday we took her in for a chest x-ray to see what we are dealing with. And, thankfully, it looked just fine. But, that doesn't mean all is well. We know this type of plug, a Mr. Sticky Plug, is the very type that can act like glue and overwhelm our little sweethearts lungs. This is the type of Mr. Sticky Plug that caused her lung to collapse in the past…a smiling little girl in the morning became a hospitalized little girl by night. So….we are on edge. But at the same time feeling like she is going to be okay. We started precautionary antibiotics, added in a stronger nebulizer drug to help break up Mr. Sticky Plug and his bad friends, and are doing extra breathing treatments throughout the day and night.

On the plus side, we watched Mary Poppins yesterday afternoon all the way through for the very first time, singing the songs together, and that made Gwendolyn extra happy.
