We started Unite For The Cure to motivate the SMA community to band together to help raise $100,000 to close a funding gap for a promising stem cell program led by Dr. Hans Keirstead at UC Irvine. This program has the real potential to cure SMA and it is our belief that funding should never be an obstacle to research with such potential. Our goal is for 20 “Uniters” within the SMA community to commit to raising $5,000 each by the end of November 2009 — for a total of $100,000 — with 100% of the tax deductible proceeds going directly to Dr. Keirstead's SMA stem cell program. We have been extremely encouraged and humbled by the amazing response from so many inspiring families to the program thus far.
