Just over a year ago sweet baby Zane lost her battle to SMA. Zane was the beautiful 5 month old daughter of the inspiring Schmid family and she has had an enormous impact on the lives of countless people. At Zane's funeral, her uncle, a talented musician, was given the difficult task of performing. Well, in the spirit of everything this incredible family does, Uncle Kenny not only performed, but he wrote a song for that day, too. The Schmid's sent me a copy of Angel (for Zane) and I have been listening to it on my iPod almost every night for the last year. It is a beautiful song — both the lyrics and music — and I've always hoped others would get to hear it one day. About a year ago I was asked to write and perform a song for the funeral service of my beautiful niece and Goddaughter, Zane Schmid. As many of you know, Zane was taken by Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a condition that takes the lives of more infants than any other genetic disease. As you can imagine, it was the toughest assignmentI've ever been given, but I wrote “Angel (for Zane)” the day before the service. I have recorded the song and it is now available on iTunes,Amazon, eMusic,Napster, and mostother online outlets. Proceeds from the sale of the song will go to The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation to help find a cure to this terrible condition.
