We spent the last two days at Stanford for some more appointments with Gwendolyn's neurologist, Dr. Wang. She had two blood draws, which are really hard on her because her veins lay deeper than normal due to her lack of muscle tone and blood flow 🙁 She also had an EKG and everything looks good. She is so brave and strong through all of this and is easily comforted with much deserved snuggles and back rubs.
We left the luxury of the Stanford parking lot today and traveled to the beautiful Monterey coast. One of our nurses told us about Point Lobos State Reserve (thank you Dodi) and what a beautiful place to stop. We walked to Sea Lion Point and while standing on a craggy ocean cliff we saw and heard all of the barking sea lions below. Victoria and I were both so excited to show Gwendolyn, but she was more interested in observing the other tourists. As hard as we tried to show her the many sea lions, she craned to look back at the people. She did enjoy the ocean breeze in her hair and we enjoyed the barking the sea lions We also walked through Cypress Grove, a beautiful, shady path along the ocean. Gwendolyn was deep into a much deserved nap by now, but on our way back to the RV we saw three small deer — a mommy and her two babies, grazing right off the path just feet from us. They looked at us, but the mother simply got closer to her her baby to groom its ears. That was really fun to see.
We are staying in Moss Landing just north of Monterey. It's a small fishing village and it looks to be really quaint and cute. We'll explore a bit more tomorrow and will be here for a few days.
