There was no change in Gwendolyn's condition yesterday, which is very good news. She's in good spirits, as usual, but is a bit lethargic. Nothing jumps out as a result of all of the tests, but the doctors think that Gwendolyn is most likely fighting her way through a small virus. When healthy, Gwendolyn uses almost all of her energy to breathe and has very little to spare. When her body has to use energy elsewhere, such as to fight off this virus, it becomes increasingly difficult for her to breathe. For now, we're leaving her on bi-pap 24/7 and continuing to watch her for any change…
Unfortunately, as a result of this “adverse change”, we had to stop giving her the clinical trial medication, sodium phenylbutyrate. Assuming Gwendolyn's condition doesn't change, on Monday we'll be heading up to Stanford to meet with her doctors. We'll definitely learn more about how this will impact her participation in the clinical trial then.
