Gwendolyn is such a happy baby that there are few things that she does not like, but I thought it would be fun to name some of her current super top favorites (in no particular order):
Elmo — Gwendolyn loves Elmo. That crazy red guys gets her full attention. She loves to watch DVDs of “Elmo's World.” In fact, she gets so into the Elmo zone that when her movie is on Mommy and Daddy go almost unnoticed. (Because of this, Elmo is key for the car or long doctors appointments.) She also loves her Elmo doll, especially when he sings and giggles. Today she held Elmo's hand during her Cough Assist treatment. Elmo makes everything more fun!
Songs — “Old MacDonald” and “The Wheels on the Bus” have been at the top of the list since Gwendolyn was teeny tiny. She is very loyal. But recently, she really likes when we add new funny things to the lyrics, such as “Old MacDonald had an elephant” or “The mouse on the bus says, 'Eek, eek, eek.'” Her Fisher-Price “See 'N Say” toy is a daily activity. She likes hearing all of the animals, but her absolute favorite is the guy singing, you betcha, “Old MacDonald.”
Color — Gwendolyn has chosen purple as her favorite color. In a book with a big rainbow she continually points to the purple, even though the red and blue are much easier for her to reach. This shows she is so much her own person because we really don't have much purple around — Mommy's more of a green gal.
Words — Certain words just seem to tickle Gwendolyn's fancy and they do not grow old quickly. One such word that makes her giggle every time is “Stinky.” How you may ask was this discovered? During our summer trip in the RV, I was getting Gwendolyn ready for her bath and as I undressed her and was attempting to make that part a fun game, I got a whiff of her feet that had not been washed in a few days. “Stinky!” I proclaimed. Gwendolyn was in hysterics. Now everything becomes “Stinky” when we are looking for a giggle. Another new word that has been added to her list of faves is “Squeeze.” This is especially cute when I say it and she giggles and proceeds to squeeze my finger with her little hands.
Dare Devil — Gwendolyn loves action. She loves to be spun around in circles. She squeals in delight when Daddy flies her through the air.
Choices — Gwendolyn has such little control of her life that we look for every opportunity to give her a chance to make choices. She loves to choose. She chooses which book to read, which movie to watch, which toy to hold in the bath, which snuggly to snuggle at night, etc. She makes very definite choices now with a serious look at each, another look and then an “Ahh” sound, a smile, and a look at the one she wants.
Books — A current favorite book is not a classic, but Gwendolyn thinks it is super great. It is about a little boy trying to sleep while a tiger makes a lot of noise in the closet. The repeated phrase throughout is, “Shhhh, Tiger, I'm sleeping…” Well, Gwendolyn thinks “shhhing” the tiger is just so fun. I bring her finger to her mouth and she waits for me to say, “Shhhh” and then she gives a big raspberry and smiles so proudly.
Baby — Gwendolyn loves her baby doll, “Baby.” She sleeps with Baby. Holds Baby. Takes Baby on walks. And recently she learned to kiss Baby. Mommy has yet to get a kiss, but Baby is all loved up
Well, that's all for now. I am sure I am forgetting some and I know there will be some new favorites soon. To be continued…
