Quick update. Things seem to be moving in a positive direction with regards to my plea to the City of Santa Barbara to make the dangerous sidewalk ramps in our neighborhood accessible to the disabled.
I received an email yesterday from the Streets Capital Improvement Program Manager for the City of Santa Barbara. The good news is that his staff is currently in the process of initiating a sidewalk and access ramp project that includes our street. The bad news is that the project design isn't going to be completed until early summer 2009 and the project itself won't begin, BEGIN until fall 2009. He was also vague as to which sidewalk ramps would be included in the project.
While I understand that these things take time and appreciate the step in the right direction on the City's part, I reiterated the urgency of the sidewalk situation that we, and others with disabilities in our area, navigate on a daily basis and asked that they consider fast-tracking the project in our neighborhood. We'll see.
I am annoying for sure, but nothing has ever been accomplished by sitting quietly…
