I received a very friendly and encouraging call from Kristy Schmidt today, our local ADA Compliance Officer, with regards to the letter I wrote to her a few weeks ago about the inaccessibility of the sidewalks around our house for the disabled. Apparently the City of Santa Barbara schedules sidewalk ramp construction projects based on community outreach — such as my letter — on a needs first basis. She is going to open a file for the area around our house, speak with the proper people internally that handle such projects, and get back to me next week with questions and hopefully a plan. I'm so glad I wrote that letter.
