Teething and Separation Anxiety

Gwendolyn is showing us that she is just like all babies. For the last week she has been showing signs of teething: drool, pink cheeks, low fever and fussiness. The fussiness immediately got our attention because she is such a happy baby and rarely fusses. Thankfully, Tylenol and naps do wonders.

She also seems to be going through the separation anxiety that many babies have around this time. Because we are always with her, it only comes up in the middle of the night when the nurse is here. She wakes and when she doesn't see Bill or me, sobs as I have never seen her cry before. The instant I walk in the room she stops. I comfort her and reassure her, but the second I walk out of the room, massive tears start again. When she is in my arms she will talk to the nurse, smile and laugh with her, but always looks to see that I am there. Some nights I feel like a jack-in-the-box, up and down out of bed to put her back to sleep. The timing is a bit inconvenient, but I have to say I melt knowing that I can make her feel safe and secure.
