Learn about Dr. Keirstead's pioneering human embryonic stem cell research for treatments directly derived from human embryonic stem cells including treatments for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and acute spinal cord injuries. Dr. Keirstead's treatment for acute spinal cord injuries was the first human embryonic stem cell clinical trial approved in the United States. And his SMA program is currently on clinical hold with the FDA to commence a Phase I safety study in humans.
