Driving to END SMA…one rock at a time!
There's this incredible off-road desert race called the King of the Hammers held in Johnson Valley, CA. If you are into this kind of thing, you know exactly what I am talking about. It's crazy. It's grueling. It's incredibly difficult to qualify for. 100 huge, custom beasts of buggies race 120 miles through ridiculous terrain. Desert. Rocks. Flats. Climbing. And heat — lots of heat! Its referred to as the toughest one day off-road race on the planet.”
You may remember Gwendolyn's Uncle Richard ran as copilot in the GenRight Off Road #805 buggy in the King of the Hammers last year and did great. You may also recall that following that race Uncle Richard and Aunt Kristen decided to build their own buggy — buggy #4474 — proudly sporting the Gwendolyn Strong Foundation logo on the doors. Well, the 2011 King of the Hammers is this week and Uncle Richard and Aunt Kristen have been out in the desert with their team working their tails off in qualifying runs for this awesome event. And guess what? THEY. QUALIFIED.
We are so unbelievably proud of them. And we are so moved that in the midst of all they have to focus on, they still have SMA at the forefront of their thoughts: “Please remember WE RACE FOR GWEN! We go fast because she can't. The GSF logo is on the buggy, on the tent, and on every team shirt and hat we have. We are going towork to END SMA one rock at a time!”
The 2011 King of the Hammers race runs TODAY — Friday, February 11, 2011 at 8:00am PST. You can follow the race via video online by clicking HERE.
Good luck out there Uncle Richard and Aunt Kristen! Gwendolyn sends huge fist bumps and high-fives your way!!!
